Automotive PCV systems have a 'Dirty' side, and a 'Clean' side. The Dirty side uses intake manifold vacuum to draw air out through the PCV valve or PCV fitting to evacuate moisture, fumes and acids from the crankcase. This is where you would install a PCV side catch can. As this air is drawn out of the crankcase, clean air (or commonly referred to as 'makeup' air) is drawn into the crankcase through the Crankcase vent which connects to the cold air intake or factory air box.
