Description
Working with noted Engine Builder Tony Bischoff of BES Racing Engines (Winner of the 2006, 2007 and with a Gen 3 HEMI, the 2010 Engine Masters Challenge! ...and yes, he won again in 2011!) we developed our best in class 6.1L Ported Cylinder Heads & matched Intake Manifolds back in 2006 and to this day our BES ported heads are in high demand for their horsepower records. Available for all NA, supercharged, turbocharged or Nitrous injected vehicles, our ported cylinder heads and intake manifolds are used on safe and consistent motor packages producing well over 1200 horsepower.

With back to back dyno tests with just our Stage 1 heads and intake package, we averaged gains of 45 rwhp and 44 rwt while achieving maximum gains of 49 rwhp all running cold (with airflow for cooling, approx. 180 degrees engine temp). Our heads out-performed our own expectations and with our experience of working with and installing all of the competitors heads we're extremely confident that our HHP/BES Heads will beat the competition every time.

Why are out HHP/BES Racing Engine Cylinder Heads different from our competitors?

Not all ported heads are the same. Expert engine builders like BES know how to get all of the horsepower safely out of a cylinder head whereas a standard head porter may gain horsepower from their head porting, expert porting and a precision valve job can many times unleash 50% to 100% more power. What really sets our heads apart from our competitors is our porting process. All of our cylinder heads are CNC ported for accuracy but CNC porting is just not enough. Compare our CNC ported cylinder heads and ported intakes to that offered by our competitors. The added value behind our record holding cylinder heads lies in the high levels of experience that BES uses in their killer port and valve job designs.

Stage 1 Heads: (Stock Hollow Stem Valves, Springs & Retainers w/New Bronze Valve Guides) If you are just installing these ported heads and intake without the installation in the near future of an aggressive cam then you will need our Stage 1 Heads Package. If you are installing the HHP Stage 1 Custom Cam, then you will only need to select our Stage 1 Heads Package to go with it if you choose to combine the two.

Stage 2 Heads: (Stock Hollow Stem Valves, PSI Valve Springs, Manley Titanium Retainers w/New Bronze Valve Guides) If you are installing a fairly aggressive high lift cam, such as our HHP Stage 2 or higher Custom Camshafts or using these heads with a stroker motor then you will need to select our Stage 2 heads package or higher which comes with the necessary upgrades. We use a specially designed and tested valve spring from PSI with Titanium retainers combination that outperforms the competitions valve springs. Almost every competitor of ours is new to the market in our opinion. We've been working in these HEMI engines for 8 years now and because the majority of our competitors who also sell ported heads have only been around for a couple of years at the most, they don't have our level of experience with these HEMI heads. Early on, we tested and broke several manufacturer's valve springs and since this is the weakest part of the engine, we've developed a special combination using the PSI valve spring, Manley Titanium Retainer that fits inside the stock 6.1L spring cage that was introduced by Chrysler onto these HEMI heads in order to prevent a dropped valve in the event of a valve spring failure. Our combination performs flawlessly and our use of the OEM valve spring cage makes our cylinder heads the safest on the market because a broken $12 valve spring can easily grenade your entire engine. Way too many of our competitors are unknowingly putting you at risk.

NOTES:
  1. The purchase of the matched ported intake manifold with your purchase of the ported heads is highly recommended for maximum performance gains.
  2. Due to the extremely high value of 6.1L Heads and Intake Manifolds a fully refundable core charge is applied. This core charge is refunded upon proper return of your serviceable stock 6.1L Heads and Intake Manifold in an undamaged, complete condition. Damaged parts will be replaced and deducted from your core charge.
  3. If you're interested in Kooks long tube headers, the installation time and cost goes way down if you have it done at the same time your heads are installed since installation is much easier and quicker.

INSTALLATION AT HHP: We can also install your heads and intake for you at an awesome price, too, and from the outside you can't tell that any work has been done to your vehicle. Dealerships cannot tell unless they break into the engine. If you are unable to get your SRT-8 to us we can ship our heads and intake to you in return for your stock heads and intake - no core charges are involved! Installation requires oil change ( Royal Purple & K&N Filter usually), coolant change and all new head bolts and gaskets. If you need to purchase new head bolts and gaskets (see links below), just let us know at the time of purchase.

ADDITIONAL PARTS REQUIRED:

  • MOPAR Head Gasket Kit
  • MOPAR Head Bolts (unless using studs)
  • Oil Change & Coolant Flush
  • Intake Manifold Gasket (Preferably Cometic C5197)
DIFFICULTY: This modification should only be done by trained professionals. Installation time is on average 12 hours and requires trained expertise.

Stage 1 Heads & Intake Testing w/ Stock Engine: circa. 2006. The factory computer takes the additional airflow without tuning, but custom tuning with Diablo CMR is highly recommended to ensure that you are safely getting all of the power out of your vehicle. Our initial testing was completed without custom tuning and utilized the stock computer tune.

Data:

Baseline Maximum Output: 365.37 rwhp / 366.17 rwt
Baseline Heat Soak Output: 349.35 rwhp / 359.36 rwt

Final Average Output: 410.70 rwhp / 410.46 rwt
Final Maximum HP Output: 413.99 rwhp / 401.33 rwtq
Final Heat Soak Output: 388.25 rwhp / 376.69 rwt

Results:

At full heat-soak (no fans and 15 minutes idling to reach 220+ degrees) we showed gains of 38 rear wheel horsepower and 24 rear wheel torque. Heat-soak numbers mean nothing since you will never run at these operating conditions but we use them to show what the absolute minimum gains are. That's an awesome gain!

How does this process go with your stage one heads? I'm looking to install a comp.cams.hrt stage two non vbt camshaft. 592 intake, 583 exhaust lift, in a.2005 5.7 block and have these 6.1 heads installed as well. These have the 1.55 exhaust valves in them and from what I've seen, the exhaust side is a pretty good sized bottleneck and flow isn't that great. I race and show this car quite often during the season. I run in the mshs race from time to time when my schedule allows me to. I'd like to have something planned for the 2023 racing season and seriously move up the ladder with what I have now. Car is a 2005 dodge Magnum rt. Unopened engine, all stock except for colder ugs and after market coil packs, and a custom true cold air intake tube with cone filter. Car has run a 13.349 at 103, on nitto Motivo 255/50-18 tires, on the stock drivetrain and open ended 2.82 rear. I'd like to eventually see about 490-525hp out of this motor before the stroker kit gets finally put in it. If that's a possibility. Looking to use the 6.4 intake and see a window switch to activate the runners in it. I need specs on the heads you provide that would be a good fit for my application and hopefully budget too. Also planning on buying the bullet and going with large tube (2") headers and a full 3" custom exhaust (which will be an upgrade to what I have on there now which is a full 2.5 exhaust with an x pipe, and two aeroturbine 2525 mufflers. My upgrades for this coming season will be all drivetrain related in hopes of high 12s in the 1/4. (2800 stall, aluminum driveshaft, getrag rear with posi diff and ,3.23 gears, 6 speed axles and hubs, and using drag radials on race star wheels. Please let me know how this works, and the price that's listed for the stage 1 heads, if that's for each head, or for a pair. See more »

Thanks for your extensive question. This unfortunately is something that cannot be easily answered online, rather we will request that you call in and speak with our engine department since flow numbers on these motors means very little when it comes to how fast they run in the quarter mile. Give us a call at 888-894-1115 M-F, 9am-6pm EST and we'll be happy to help get your build moving forward.

Yes! They certainly will. The Stage 4 camshaft is designed for use with aftermarket pistons in order to provide the additional valve to piston clearance but these ported 6.1L heads with the Stage 2 option will work on all Stage 2 through Stage 4 combinations. The valve springs on the Stage 2 heads will have no problems supporting the larger Stage 4 camshaft.

Does stage 1 provide new valves, springs, stem seals, shims, retainers, cages? Or does everything else get reused. I see new bronze guides for stages 1 & 2 and new springs and retainers for stage 2. See more »
