A Shakedown 2020 Victory Like No Other For HHP's Rob Goss
Sep 20th 2020
How often can you say that you went to a race, had a Promod wreck into you and you still managed to win the race? How about, how often can you say that you lost in the first round of eliminations and still managed to win the race? If your Team HHP racer Rob Goss, this is all in a single race weekend for you. The Shakedown 2020 at Virginia Motorsports Park started out with a testing mishap bruising and battering the front end of Rob's Gen3 HEMI Challenger but the car was mended in time for qualifying and back on to the track he went. In qualifying Rob even showed us some new tricks.
Once eliminations started, Rob was paired up against another points contender who teched in his turbocharged street car after his X275 race car was unable to make the race. In a weird chain of events, Rob detected a minor issue with his Challenger and shut it down early to coast to his victory against the much slower street car. Surprisingly the street car gained momentum and approached the coasting Challenger within the final few feet of the track and as the crowd jumped to their feet, the other car lit the win light against Rob. After returning to the pits a first round loser and halfway through packing up the rig word was sent to Rob that he was ruled the winner after the street car was disqualified for not running the class designated tire. New life was given to the team and Rob Goss preceded to knock out car after car off the ladder and emerged victorious once again in the end!
